Slow Made

I’ve been thinking a lot about slowness this week. Studio In Progress is a one person business, and will be I expect, for many years to come. This means everything takes a lot of time.

The physicality of making a product from start to finish takes many hours itself, but the conception of an idea through to prototyping and refining, means it can take me months and months before a new product is ready.

And then you add in all the other aspects like running a website, creating the branding, the social media and blog posts, and suddenly half a year has passed.

With everything taking so much time, it’s easy to second guess yourself and wonder if you’re ever going to get anywhere. But all this time spent adds a quiet value to a product, to a brand. Something fast fashion with its mass production and trend chasing will never have. Making things that I love, slowly, and with my own two hands, is a small act of resistance in such a fast paced world. The things I create are rich with care and craftsmanship, and this is why quality over quantity will always produce a more authentic outcome.

So I guess I’m in this for the long haul. Law x
